How I get stuff done: Part 1
(Original post on my instagram page 10th July 2017)
I’ve been gearing up to work on a lot of major projects lately- these include starting my fashion brand – Yaengah
So in the midst of all this business- this past Friday I was booked to host the movie premiere of the new Nollywood flick- Alter Ego, starring Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Wale Ojo. Although I host almost daily on Radio and have hosted a monthly event (SheRocks NG) for over 6 months – I still found myself with a case of jitters. I realized I hadn’t actually hosted a live event that big in quite a while. After the usual hustle and bustle for a befitting outfit, thanks again to my lovely friend Lara Cole of ElanRed Store in Lekki- who got me all dolled up in a flowery blue and red floaty gown by Lumiere, a Ghanaian fashion designer. I styled it with some super comfy gold platforms, a gold belt, a gold tasseled clutch, my signature bangles, and a pair of green feather earrings. My makeup was being done by the uber talented AnnKlaire and as I sat in her chair; my mind raced over to the task ahead and I told myself to RELAX, after all I was supposed to have a co-host, wasn’t I?
Fast forward to a couple of hours before the event, the co-host could no longer do it (don’t ask). I freaked out! All inside my head of course… for the first time in a long time there was no-one around me to psyche me up- my manager and bestie were out of town and too busy to cheerlead, although my darling hubby was supportive over the phone as usual (I think he believes I can actually walk on water if I wanted to- bless him).. Still I felt a little lost…but you know what at the end of the night – I found that I not only got through it with a smile, but also with a wink and a speech (although I cheated a bit by reading a list I made of the cast and crew).
So here’s exactly of how I did it-
Step 1- Acknowledge the fear within. (Fear of success/ failure / incompletion)
Step 2- Send a prayer of gratitude upstairs to God for your victory. Then Believe
Step 3-Kill the fear, skin it, gut it, add some spice, put it on a slow burn in a crockpot.(get organized, plan your moves, set goals, create a schedule)
Step 4- Eat your fear, chew slowly, deliberately.(visualize your goal post, get into how good it’s going to feel)
Step 5- Now, Go on and get it done for you.
Hope this helps someone out there who’s struggling with fear. I say look that fear in the face and challenge it to a duel using the steps above. You’ll win. I guarantee it.
